Gas Zone 2 Luminaires

ATEX SOLUTIONS

We are specialists in ATEX and high technical specification environments

The ATEX atmosphere corresponding to Zone 2 applies to areas where flammable gases or vapours may be present, such as petrol stations, chemical plants, paint booths or solvent storage facilities, among others. In this case, an explosive atmosphere is unlikely to occur and, if it does, it will only be present for short periods.

At Airfal, we offer lighting solutions (luminaires and floodlights) specifically designed for this environment, ensuring the highest required level of safety.

ATEX: Gas Zone 2

An explosive atmosphere is a mixture with air, under atmospheric conditions, of flammable substances in the form of gases, vapours, mist or dust in which, after ignition, combustion spreads to the entire unburned mixture.

Many substances can form an explosive atmosphere. Examples include gases (natural gas, butane, propane, acetylene, etc.), liquids (fuels, solvents, oils, paints, etc.) and solids (wood, coal, cereal grains, metal dust). Therefore, many facilities and activities must be assessed in accordance with applicable regulations.

There are two types of ATEX atmospheres: explosive gas atmospheres and explosive dust atmospheres.

When classifying zones, the relevant international standards and the parameters of the substances capable of creating these atmospheres must be taken into account. This makes it possible to classify the location based on the characteristics of the substances present in the facility.

Frequently Asked Questions about Gas Zone 2 Luminaires

What characterises Gas Zone 2?2026-10-09T15:44:41+02:00

Gas Zone 2 is an area where an explosive atmosphere is unlikely to occur during normal operation. If one does form, it is likely to occur infrequently and for short periods of time.

What types of luminaires are suitable for Gas Zone 2?2026-10-09T15:42:18+02:00

For Gas Zone 2, suitable luminaires include Hipex, Glassex, Secure and Secure Block in tubular format, Watex in linear format, and LED Max ATEX floodlights.

What are the differences between luminaires for Gas Zone 1 and Gas Zone 2?2026-10-09T15:36:21+02:00

The main difference between luminaires for Gas Zone 1 and Gas Zone 2 lies in the likelihood of an explosive atmosphere occurring during normal operation. In Zone 1, the presence of an explosive atmosphere is highly likely, whereas in Zone 2, it is unlikely to occur and, if it does, it will be infrequent and of short duration.
Therefore, luminaires for Gas Zone 1 generally have a more robust design and stricter safety requirements compared to luminaires for Gas Zone 2.
